Please review our volunteer guidelines below to see what is expected of our team members. If accepted, you will receive a formal agreement to sign prior to your first shift.

Expectations & Commitment:
  • Becky Baker Foundation volunteers will support survivors with dignity, respect, and compassion
  • Volunteers will follow all Center policies
  • Volunteers are prohibited from unauthorized use of the organization’s resources and equipment
  • Volunteers are prohibited from taking store merchandise for personal or family use while on shift
  • Eligible volunteers who meet participation criteria are welcome to schedule a separate shopping spree appointment during standard shopping hours

Trauma-Informed Care & Key Practices:

  • We serve survivors — many who are in active treatment
  • Protect and honor participant privacy and personal boundaries by keeping all shared stories, photos, and personal information strictly confidential
  • Use soft voices and offer help gently
  • Ask, never assume
  • Listen more than you speak
  • Offer emotional support WITHOUT counseling
  • DO NOT offer medical advice
  • Allow emotional space and never minimize a survivor’s journey

Conduct & Dress Code:

  • Always treat participants with kindness and respect
  • Be patient, gentle, and supportive
  • Wear modest, comfortable clothing. Close-toed shoes are recommended
  • DO NOT wear strong fragrances (chemo sensitivity)

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and check-in (or check-out) participants
  • Assist participants while they are shopping
  • Keep space clean and organized
  • Restock items and assist with donations as necessary
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by Director or Volunteer Coordinator

Exit Policy:

  • Volunteers may step down at any time by advising the Director/Volunteer Coordinator well in advance of needing to step away from the role
  • The Foundation reserves the right to release volunteers at will for any reason, including misconduct, breach of confidentiality, or harmful behavior
